Tripalli Secondary School Sets Goal of 100% SSC Pass Rate

A discussion meeting was held at Tripalli Secondary School in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat district on Tuesday (September 15), focusing on improving students’ academic performance, ensuring 100 percent attendance, keeping them away from drugs and other harmful activities, and achieving a 100 percent pass rate in the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination.

The meeting, held at the school premises in the afternoon, brought together teachers, guardians, local social workers, education-conscious individuals, political representatives and other community members. The participants discussed ways to create a disciplined and student-friendly educational environment and strengthen cooperation between the school and parents.

Speakers at the meeting stressed that students’ academic success cannot be ensured through the efforts of teachers alone. Parents and the local community also have an important role to play in monitoring students’ attendance, study habits, behaviour and overall development.

Guardian Saiful Sardar urged all parents to visit the school regularly and remain informed about their children’s academic progress. He said parents should not limit their responsibilities to sending their children to school but should also provide proper guidance and remain aware of their children’s friends, behaviour and daily activities.

He also raised questions about why the school’s SSC results had failed to meet expectations on several occasions. He called for the reasons behind the decline in results to be identified and addressed through coordinated efforts by teachers, students and guardians.

Guardian Md. Obaidul Sheikh said family education plays a vital role in shaping a child’s character and attitude towards teachers and elders.

“Students should learn respect, discipline, good manners and moral values from their families as well as from their educational institutions,” he said, stressing the need for parents to pay greater attention to their children’s upbringing at home.

Head Teacher Nikhil Hajra said he had witnessed many good and difficult periods in the history of Tripalli Secondary School. He said the institution once had a strong reputation for its educational environment and academic performance.

Referring to the current School Management Committee Chairman, Md. Shipon Munshi, the head teacher expressed optimism that his education, experience and forward-looking approach would help bring new vitality to the institution.

He said improving SSC results must go hand in hand with ensuring regular attendance, classroom discipline and students’ concentration on their studies. He also called for stronger communication between teachers and parents to address students’ academic and behavioural problems at an early stage.

Shibpur Union BNP General Secretary Md. Tuhin Molla said parents should be called to school whenever a student remains irregular or becomes involved in disciplinary problems.

He said if guardians repeatedly fail to respond to calls from the school and the student’s behaviour does not improve, the school authorities may take necessary action in accordance with institutional rules.

He also urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s social environment and keep them away from drugs, bad company and other activities that could negatively affect their education and future.

In his concluding remarks, School Management Committee Chairman Md. Shipon Munshi said Tripalli Secondary School had once been among the leading schools in the upazila in terms of SSC examination results.

He said the school had lost that consistency over time and that restoring its academic reputation would require collective efforts from teachers, students, guardians and the local community.

Md. Shipon Munshi stressed the need to ensure 100 percent attendance of students as well as punctual attendance of teachers. He said students must attend school regularly, participate attentively in classroom activities and maintain discipline both inside and outside the campus.

He said the upcoming pre-test and test examinations would be particularly important for assessing students’ preparedness for the SSC examination.

According to a decision reached through discussions among teachers, guardians, local social workers and education-conscious community members, students who fail the test examination will not be allowed to complete the SSC examination form-filling process. The decision, he said, was intended to encourage students to take their studies seriously and prepare adequately before the final examination, subject to the applicable rules and regulations of the education authorities.

The school chairman also said that if any student engages in misbehaviour, indiscipline or misconduct on the school premises, the guardian would initially be notified and asked to attend the school. If repeated notices fail to produce any improvement in the student’s behaviour or the guardian does not cooperate with the school, further action may be taken under the school’s rules, including consideration of issuing a transfer certificate where permitted by the applicable regulations.

Md. Shipon Munshi also urged teachers to provide students with appropriate discipline, guidance and counselling when necessary. At the same time, he stressed that students should be encouraged through proper guidance to develop interest in their studies and build responsible and disciplined lives.

The meeting was conducted by English teacher Kamruzzaman Khan Piklu.

Among others, Shibpur Union BNP leader Md. Shiplu Sheikh, local social workers Bellal Khan and Enamul Sheikh, teachers, guardians, education-conscious citizens and other local dignitaries attended the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their commitment to working together to ensure students’ regular attendance, improve their academic performance, keep them away from drugs and harmful activities, and work towards achieving a 100 percent pass rate in the upcoming SSC examination.
